Registration
Pre–Quarter Registration
Incoming students must complete non–credit foundational courses (Zero Units) that will prepare you for rigorous advanced courses in the program. These synchronous, remote courses are of varying length for four weeks prior to the start of Autumn and Spring quarters. The MS in Applied Data Science Advising Team will register students for pre–quarter courses based on individual submissions of the pre–quarter survey, which is made available 21 days prior to the start of pre–quarter courses. All students MUST pass pre–quarter courses. If students do not pass any pre–quarter courses, they cannot register for the next set of courses. If students already registered for courses but did not pass their pre–quarter course(s), they will be administratively removed from those courses.
Registration
Students must complete their course registration online during the registration period for each quarter. The MS in Applied Data Science registration period for Summer, Winter and Spring quarters is usually during the seventh week (Week 7) of the previous quarter. The MS in Applied Data Science registration period for Autumn quarter is usually three weeks before the Autumn quarter begins.
Schedule of Classes
The live course offerings available for registration each quarter is published as the Schedule of Classes, with information such as class meeting dates, times, locations, instructors, and more. Registration for courses will take place through my.UChicago, the student self–service application. Please note: the schedule is subject to change.
Add/Drop Courses
During the first week of the quarter, students can add or drop courses to their schedule using the registration website (my.uchicago.edu). Any changes that need to be made after the end of the first week (Week 1) must be made by the MS in Applied Data Science Advising Team.
MS in Applied Data Science students may request to drop a course by the end of the third week for a full tuition refund and to remove the class from your record. Requests to drop must be received by the MS in Applied Data Science Advising Team by the third Friday of the quarter (Week 3) by 12 PM. No exceptions will be made for late requests.
Request to drop a course may be submitted after Week 3 of the quarter; however, students will NOT receive any tuition refund and a withdrawal (W) will be reflected on the transcript. These requests to drop a course must be submitted by the eighth Friday of the quarter (Week 8) by 12 PM. No exceptions will be made for late requests.
Course change request(s) will be considered on a first come, first serve basis. In addition, a submitted course change request does not guarantee approval. Approved course changes are contingent on course availability, seating capacity, achieved prerequisite courses, and student academic progression. All approvals are made at the discretion of the MS in Applied Data Science Advising Team.
Course Feedback
Course feedback, administrated by the University Registrar, is made available to the University of Chicago community on the Registrar’s website. MS in Applied Data Science course feedback can be found here beginning Spring 2021.
My Planner
My Planner, powered by Stellic, is an online degree planning tool for MS in Applied Data Science graduate students. This interactive platform allows students to plan their schedules for future quarters and see how they are progressing in their MS in Applied Data Science degree plan. My Planner is intended for planning purposes only and does not replace any existing processes for meeting with advisors or registering for courses. my.UChicago.edu is still the official system of the University and all transactions, such as registering for courses and applying for graduation, will still take place there.
To log in to My Planner, go to my.UChicago.edu and look for “My Planner” in the sidebar on the right. If you have questions about navigating My Planner, please visit the Student Guide.
